This week, I am speaking with the incredible team at Tint Haus Customs in Davie, Florida, owners Jess Launerts and Ben Launerts. This family business is an exclusive dealer for XPEL, offering Window Tinting, Paint Protection Film, and Ceramic Coating!
Marco Cazorla: Can you tell us about the story behind your business? How did it come into existence?
Ben Launerts: Well, Marco, Tint Haus Customs is not your ordinary shop. Jess and I opened our doors in April of 2021, and believe it or not, neither of us had any prior experience in this or any related business. Our love for cars brought us together – both of us managed different Mustang clubs in South Florida. It was an unexpected foundation that brought us closer than we ever imagined.
Before diving into the world of auto customization, I was deeply rooted in the valet parking industry for 39 years. At the height of my career, I was an SVP overseeing the entire state of Florida, with 2,000 employees under my wing. Jess, on the other hand, is a Registered Nurse and spent many long hours in the ER of one of South Florida's busiest hospitals.
But life has its twists and turns. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we both felt a pull towards a new direction. A friend's Tint World location sparked our interest, but we wanted our own brand. Taking a leap of faith, we signed a lease for a 2,500 sq ft facility, and Tint Haus Customs was born.
Jess Launerts: It's been a wild ride. I've always loved hands-on work, so I took charge of the practical side of things. With dedication and a lot of learning, I mastered vinyl wraps, tinting, and even ventured into paint correction and ceramic coating. Our decision to add PPF (Paint Protection Film) was a game-changer. After getting certified with XPEL for PPF, we've seen a consistent flow of cars coming in for this service. Today, we proudly serve an average of 35-40 cars a month, with an outstanding team offering a range of services.
Marco Cazorla: It's incredible how you both play to your strengths. In your view, what makes a successful business owner?
Ben Launerts: Patience and tenacity, hands down. Success doesn't happen overnight, and the challenges of a retail business can be demanding. Jess and I are fortunate; our diverse skill sets allow us to focus on what we each do best. While I may not know how to tint a window, I'm passionate about sales, marketing, and networking. To anyone new in this business, ensure you're financially prepared. It eases the pressure and allows you to focus on quality.
